Vangjel Tavo ha assunto l’incarico di sindaco del Comune di Himara in Albania, situata nel Distretto di Valona, il 30 settembre 2024, dopo aver vinto le elezioni suppletive del 4 agosto.
Fin dal suo primo giorno in carica, ha posto l’accento su un concetto senza precedenti di servizio alla comunità, con l’obiettivo di restituire fiducia e speranza agli abitanti di Himara.
Per la prima volta, le porte del comune sono sempre aperte ai cittadini e Vangjel Tavo stesso accoglie decine di persone nel suo ufficio ogni giorno. Un esempio da ammirare e da seguire per tutti i leader.
Durante la campagna elettorale, Tavo ha promesso che non sarebbe stato solo una “figura burocratica”, ma un sindaco quotidiano e presente, in contatto con i residenti e pronto ad ascoltare le loro esigenze.

Con il suo lavoro, Himara non è più solo una meta estiva, ma un comune attivo tutto l’anno, per residenti e turisti provenienti da tutto il mondo.
Fin dal suo arrivo in carica, le festività di fine anno sono state celebrate come mai prima, con Babbo Natale che arrivava dal mare carico di doni per i bambini e con feste musicali con gli artisti più famosi dell’Albania.
Inoltre, l’apertura della stagione turistica ha avuto un’eco in tutto il Paese, consolidando una tradizione dopo l’altra nel giro di pochi mesi.
In questo senso, con promesse concrete e un approccio più “orientato al servizio”, Tavo si presenta non solo come un politico, ma come un uomo impegnato nei confronti della comunità.
Dall’inizio del suo mandato, Tavo ha promosso diverse iniziative e piani che mirano a cambiare il concetto di Himara come città costiera, come comune e come comunità.

La promozione del turismo e i progetti di sviluppo hanno avuto un enorme successo. Nel novembre 2025, Tavo ha rappresentato Himara alla Fiera Internazionale di Tirana, dichiarando pubblicamente che l’obiettivo è quello di rendere Himara una destinazione turistica 365 giorni all’anno, non solo stagionale.
Tavo si è inoltre concentrato sulla riparazione delle strade, sulla modernizzazione delle aree turistiche, sulla protezione e la manutenzione dell’ambiente comunitario e sul rafforzamento del rapporto con la comunità.
Una delle azioni più visibili: l’ordinanza di sospensione dei lavori di costruzione nell’area turistica dal 15 giugno al 15 settembre, al fine di preservare l’aspetto, la natura e anche il comfort per turisti e residenti.
Con questo, ha inviato un messaggio: non è contrario allo sviluppo, ma a favore di uno sviluppo che rispetti l’ambiente e l’identità di Himara.
Attraverso queste iniziative, Tavo ha riflesso una visione moderna non solo come comune turistico, ma come comunità che preserva la tradizione, la natura e il benessere dei suoi residenti.

Vangjel Tavo took office as the head of the Municipality of Himara, Albania, on September 30, 2024, after winning the by-elections on August 4.
From his first day in office, he has emphasized an unprecedented concept of community service, with the aim of restoring faith and hope to the residents of Himara.
For the first time, the doors of the municipality are always open to ordinary residents, and Vangjel Tavo himself welcomes dozens of people to his office every day. An example to be admired and to be followed by all leaders.
During the campaign, Tavo promised that he would not be just a “bureaucratic figure”, but an everyday mayor, present, in contact with residents and ready to listen to their needs.
With his work, Himara is now not only a summer destination, but a municipality that operates all year round, for residents and tourists coming from all over the world.
Since his arrival in office, the end-of-year holidays were celebrated like never before with Santa Claus who came from the sea full of gifts for children, and with musical parties with the most famous artists in Albania.
Also, the opening of the tourist season echoed throughout the country, establishing tradition after tradition within a few months.
In this sense, with concrete promises and a more “service-oriented” approach, Tavo presents himself not only as a politician, but as a man with commitment to the community.
Since the beginning of his mandate, Tavo has promoted several initiatives and plans that aim to change the concept of Himara as a coastal city, as a municipality, and as a community.
The promotion of tourism and development projects have been extremely successful. In November 2025, Tavo represented Himara at the Tirana International Fair, publicly declaring that the goal is to make Himara a tourist destination 365 days a year, not just seasonal.
Tavo has also focused on road repair, modernization of tourist areas, protection and maintenance of the community environment, and strengthening the relationship with the community.
One of the most visible actions: the order to suspend construction works in the tourist area from June 15 to September 15 in order to preserve the appearance, nature, but also the comfort for tourists and residents.
With this, he sent a message: he is not against development, but for a development that respects the environment and identity of Himara.
Through these initiatives, Tavo has reflected a modern vision not only as a tourist municipality, but as a community that preserves tradition, nature, and the well-being of its residents.
